IT'S INTERVIEW TIME

It's interview time. You get the call to say you have successfully gained an interview for a part time job, you celebrate, then you panic. Why? Because no one ever knows what to wear for a part time job interview.

If you're looking for a full time job, it is likely that you have a suit residing somewhere in your wardrobe. But if you're just looking for that extra Topshop spending money, finding an outfit from your wardrobe that would suit is always a chore. I had the exact same dilemma at the end of last week, and I thought I'd share my thoughts (especially after I debated long and hard the different outfit combinations).

THE OUTFIT
  • If you delve into your wardrobe of staple items, you'd be surprised what would be perfect for a job interview. Think plain and simple - a blank canvas.
  • For my interview, I went for the simple white and black combination. Long white vest top and leggings for the basic part of the outfit. I'd be surprised a white vest top isn't lurking somewhere at the bottom of your wardrobe, but if it isn't, they can be bought very cheaply at all high street stores.

  • A blazer is a vital wardrobe staple. Worn over leggings and tee shirt, floral dresses or party outfits, the blazer can bring shape and smartness to any outfit. The fitted blazer is being seen all over the high street this season, and if you haven't bought one yet, I'd strongly advise it - they are well worth the money spent. A simple black blazer will add maturity, silhouette and smartness to your basic interview outfit.

THE ACCESSORIES
  • Accessories are always difficult for an interview outfit. The temptation is to go overboard, but remember - blank canvas. Choose shoes and a bag which match, and aren't too outrageous. As seen above, I teamed my brown ankle boots with a brown satchel. Simple but co-ordinated.
  • Heels or flats? The main question you need to ask yourself is, how well can I walk in heels? I wear heels on a night out, but in general I don't because there is always a good chance I may go head over heels down stairs. If in doubt, stick to your basic ballet pumps. You'll also be very comfy.
  • Add that certain something. You have your basic interview outfit, now its time to add that unique feature that makes you different from everyone in the waiting room. It can be a large cocktail ring, a distinguishing hair piece or in my case, an interesting necklace. I added a domino necklace to my outfit - that's who I am and it showed a bit of personality to the interviewer.

You're ready for your interview. Good luck, and don't forget to smile!
